About
What Is the Challenger Series?
Founded in 2025, the PPA Challenger Series is a grassroots tour designed to provide aspiring pickleball professionals a pathway to the PPA Tour, the pinnacle tour of global pickleball.

How It Works
Everything You Need To Know
Who Can Play
Each Challenger event features skill divisions from 3.0 through 5.0, along with a Pro Division. Players ranked in the top 20 of a PPA Tour division are not eligible to compete in that same division.
Prize Money and Ranking Points
Each Challenger event features a $10,000 prize pool for Pro Division competitors. Champions in all five Pro Division events also earn PPA Tour ranking points.
Earn a Wild Card
Win a Challenger Pro Division event to earn a wild-card entry into the main draw of a PPA Tour Open of your choice. Each Open accepts up to two Challenger wild-card winners.
Points
How Challenger Points Work
Each Challenger event is designated as either a 125-point or 250-point event. See the schedule above for each event's point level, and the table below for the number of points awarded based on finishing position.
| Level | 1st | 2nd | 3rd | 4th | Semifinal | Quarterfinal | Round of 16 | Round of 32 | Round of 64 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Challenger 125 | 125 | 100 | 75 | 50 | 40 | 25 | 12 | 6 | 3 |
| Challenger 250 | 250 | 200 | 150 | 100 | 80 | 50 | 24 | 12 | 6 |
Rankings window
Challenger rankings are updated after each tournament, with each player’s top 16 results counting toward their ranking. Rankings are calculated on both a rolling 52-week and calendar-year basis.
Five divisions
Points are awarded separately in all 5 pro disciplines: men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles. Each division keeps its own ranking.
Path to the Tour
How a Challenger Result Becomes a Tour Career
Challenger points do two things: they rank you against every other player on the series, and they get you into the room.
01
Win an Event
Every Challenger pro champion holds a wild card into the main draw of a PPA Tour Open. That is a place in the same draw as the tour's contracted pros, earned on court.
02
Finish the season near the top
The highest-ranked players without a PPA contract are invited to the PPA Challenger Showdown, played during the Pickleball World Championships, where they compete for a spot on the PPA Tour.
Showdown
The PPA Challenger Showdown
The Challenger Series season concludes at the Opendoor Pickleball World Championships, the largest event in pickleball. The highest-ranked unsigned players will be invited to compete at Brookhaven Country Club for a chance to earn a PPA Tour contract.
The Challenger Showdown will award eight winners 2027 PPA Tour contracts, officially granting them professional status on the tour.

For doubles events, teams will be drafted. The top seed picks a partner, and the picks run down the rankings from there.
